Funding Programs for Industry/University Collaborations and Commercialization:
Canadian granting agencies have a wide variety of programs available to help researchers collaborate with companies to develop innovative R&D solutions. Many of these programs will not only extend R&D budgets through government matching, but companies can gain access to the vast technical experience of faculty members and their specialized equipment. Also, there are a number of programs that assist faculty members and universities commercialize new technologies.
Up to $25,000 over a period of 6 months
This program is intended to foster the development of new research partnerships between academic researchers and companies that have never collaborated together before, by supporting short-term research and development projects aimed at addressing a company-specific problem in the fields of natural sciences or engineering.
Approximately $150,000 to $200,000 over a period of one (1) to five (5) years
CRD Grants support well-defined projects undertaken by university researchers and their private-sector partners. Direct project costs are shared by the industrial partner(s) and NSERC. Projects may range from one year to five years in duration, but most awards are for two or three years.
